GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER
We know visiting a new church for the first time can be intimidating and nerve-wracking. We want to help make your first visit to Morristown Church of Christ a great one so here are a few things to expect when you come to one of our services:
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Do You Have Sunday School?
Sunday School classes are provided for kids and adults of all ages. These classes begin at 9:30am and last approximately 45 minutes. There is typically more than one adult Bible class option and someone will be happy to point you in a direction of a class that interests you most.
What does your church service look like?
Our worship service begins at 10:30am and lasts around 60 minutes. We use our opening minutes to welcome everyone and address some prayer requests and praises. Service then begin with singing - you can use a hymn book or the lyrics are projected on the screen. Our singing is done without instruments and we encourage the whole congregation to participate, but if you are more comfortable just listening, that is fine too. Throughout the service there will be prayers and scripture will be read.
Each Sunday we remember Jesus' life, death and resurrection by observing communion. We also take a collection to demonstrate our gratitude for God's blessings and to assist with the church's efforts. As a guest, please do not feel obligated to give.
A Bible-based sermon of approximately 30 minutes will be given. This message seeks to help each person honor God in his/her daily life. At the conclusion of each message, an invitation is offered for listeners to either become a Christian or to make their spiritual needs known to the church by taking a seat at the front of the auditorium. Some find our worship quite simple, but in that simplicity, we find a spiritual depth that strengthens us. When you worship with us, we hope that you find it a blessing to your life too.
What about Wednesday nights?
Bible classes for all ages are provided on Wednesday evenings. We begin at 7 PM with adults and teens gathering in the auditorium for a time of devotion together. This involves singing and prayer. We then dismiss to our classes around 7:10 PM. Our kids go to their class at 7pm. They will have singing, a Bible lesson and a craft. Bible classes conclude at 8 PM, but you will often find people enjoying each other's company for quite some time afterwards.
What's the culture like at Morristown Church of Christ?
We try to be welcoming, engaging and warm. We want you to feel at home here! You will find people from all walks of life, in different life stages, from different countries and different backgrounds but we all one in Christ Jesus. So please come and be yourself!
What about my kids?
We believe that kids should enjoy being at church and in Bible class each week, so we make their enjoyment a priority. We have faithful, experienced, dedicated teachers who love to share the story of Jesus with children. Your children are VERY welcome in our services. We love nothing more than to see families worshiping together side by side. We know that this can sometimes be hard but know that we believe that there is no one better to to teach small children how to worship our Lord than their family. So please, bring your children to church!
Whether on Sunday, Wednesday or at one of our special events, we hope to see you soon!
